Care tips

Dwarf conifers don't get their name directly from their small size, but from their slow growth. When you buy them, they're older than you might expect. This means you'll enjoy them more. Once they've grown sufficiently, you can plant them in the garden. Dwarf conifers can remain in the garden for generations without becoming overgrown. If you plant them outdoors in the ground in the spring, you'll hardly need to fertilize or prune them. The plant will look fuller and develop fewer bare spots. If you've kept them indoors all winter, it's advisable to let them acclimatize to the climate in a shed for a while before planting them outdoors in the spring. The tree will eventually reach a height of about a meter. You can also combine them well with flowering groundcovers or bedding plants. Or plant them in a beautiful pot for your patio or balcony.

Trivia

Don't touch the top of the Picea glauca Conica 'December'® with your hands. The oil on your hands is responsible for the high risk of damaging the dwarf conifer. Therefore, always handle it by the base. And... make sure it gets enough water, because dehydration is fatal for this dwarf conifer. Feel free to pick some needles and rub them between your hands. What do your hands smell like? Blackcurrant, of course. Incidentally, the Picea was discovered growing wild in the mountains of Canada in 1904.
